DeBakey High School opens new building

Students, parents, educators and many more gathered at the new Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions building for its grand opening on June 1.

The new building is only a short distance from the Texas Medical Center where some of these future health professionals will one day work. Since the school first opened in 1972, under the leadership of the renowned Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, its mission has been to encourage talented and diverse young people to pursue careers in the health sciences.

Some of the community leaders who spoke at the opening included Baylor’s Provost Dr. Alicia Monroe, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Texas Medical Center President Emeritus Richard Wainerdi.
