National Allied Health Professions Week is being celebrated Nov. 7 – 13, 2021. Allied health professionals are an important part of the healthcare team at Baylor and its affiliates. In addition, Baylor is training the next generation of health professionals, including physician assistants, nurse anesthetists, genetic counselors and orthotists and prosthetists.
When Baylor’s Teen Health Clinic first opened in 1968 at Jefferson Davis Hospital, it stood as a once-a-week maternity clinic serving adolescents who became pregnant. Today, it encompasses multiple clinics offering a spectrum of healthcare services.
The course of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the mental health of people of all ages. K-12 students, in particular, have suffered from their everchanging virtual and in-person schedules, causing feelings of anxiety and depression.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, raising awareness about social distancing, washing hands and wearing masks has played an essential role in curbing the spread of COVID-19.
Pediatric cardiologist Dr. Keila Lopez has always been passionate about public health and working with minority and underrepresented groups. She is now bringing her expertise to the Mayor’s Office for the City of Houston. Lopez has been named to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Hispanic Advisory Board.
