Taking care of your health is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Baylor College of Medicine experts have plenty of tips to help you stay healthy. This month’s Health Hint focuses on introducing a new workout routine, something many people will be doing at the start of the new year.
Physical fitness is the one intervention that can alleviate stress, reduce blood pressure, increase your heart health parameters, lower cholesterol and increase overall well-being. But before starting, you should consider your fitness level and set a reasonable goal. If you are someone who has been regularly active for a while and you are looking to change your routine, that is one thing. But if you are someone who has not exercised in several years or more and you are trying to pick up a new activity, you should start carefully and increase intensity gradually. Start with light weights and repetitions or maybe a group fitness class geared to your level, and consider a workout partner who has tried these types activities or a trainer.”
