DocPrep 2025 works to empower next generation of health pros

For more than 30 years, the DocPrep Program at Baylor College of Medicine has inspired and prepared high school seniors to pursue careers in health and biomedical sciences through engaging, hands-on learning opportunities.

This summer, 66 rising seniors from five of Baylor’s partner school districts —Corpus Christi ISD, South Texas ISD, United ISD, Houston ISD and Stafford MSD — gathered at Baylor’s main campus in the Texas Medical Center for a week of health professions programming.

Supported by 10 educator chaperones and four Baylor medical student mentors, participants engaged in simulation sessions, experiential health science rotations, a science communication course and presentations by clinical and research faculty from orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology – head and neck surgery, molecular and human genetics, surgery, pediatrics, the Center for Prosthetic and Orthotic Care and the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH).

The annual program is supported by the Huffington Department of Education, Innovation & Technology and the Joint Admissions Medical Program (JAMP). The goal is for participants to leave Baylor with valuable insights into health and biomedical careers and a renewed motivation to pursue their dreams in those fields.

The application is available with the affiliated schools starting in March of each year.
