Every year, Baylor College of Medicine inducts medical students into the local chapter of the Gold Humanism Society, an international organization that recognizes, supports and promotes the values of humanism and professionalism in medicine.

The society’s mission is to work within and beyond medical education to inspire, nurture and sustain lifelong advocates and activists for compassionate patient care.

During the ceremony, Baylor awarded two Baker Hughes Humanistic Care Awards to Dr. Kimberlee Parker, pediatrics resident, and Dr. Christine Rizk, assistant professor of neurology and society adviser.

Dr. Julian Swanson, assistant professor of internal medicine, and Dr. Priti Dangayach, associate professor of internal medicine, received a service grant for “Kindness Cabinet.” Claire Marie Rizk, pediatric nurse practitioner, and Dr. Chetna Pande, assistant professor of pediatrics – critical care, received a service grant for “Parent Pause: Bi-monthly peer support events for caregivers with children admitted to the Texas Children’s Hospital Heart Center.”

Faculty advisors are Dr. Chaya N. Murali, assistant professor of molecular and human genetics and pediatric geneticist; Dr. Tarik Asmerom, assistant professor of pediatrics; and Dr. Christine Rizk.

The resident / fellow chapter leaders are Dr. Sandy Samaan, president; Dr. Trevor Jamison, vice president; and Dr. Moez Aziz, national adviser.

Fourth-year medical student Jean Pierre Nguyen spoke about this year’s service activity, a panel discussion on grief in medicine.
