Health Hint: Too much family time?

Taking care of your health is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Baylor College of Medicine experts have plenty of tips to help you stay healthy. This month’s Health Hint focuses on taking care of your mental health at the holidays by avoiding unhealthy family dynamics.

Family time is common at the holidays, and you may find yourself experiencing family burnout. If you need space, there is a way to let your family members know without hurting their feelings.

It’s important to acknowledge how you are feeling and to not feel like you are being forced to continue to be in a situation when you are not enjoying it. It is perfectly acceptable to say to the host that you need to leave for a little while, but that you’ll be back for dinner. If you don’t want to leave, you can ask if there is something you can help with so you’ll be occupied.”
