A weekend of walks for good causes!

The Baylor community was strong at the Walk for Science, Saturday, April 22, in downtown Houston. But Baylor, faculty, staff and trainees participated in several other events in just one weekend! Take a look at some photos for a recap.

March for Science

With speeches by Dr. Huda Zoghbi, Dr. Andreas Tolias and Dr. Brian Bruel, along with a performance by Tulipfinger, a band that includes Baylor neuroscientists, not to mention many other Baylor faculty, staff and students in attendance, the College’s presence at the March for Science in Houston was formidable. There was even Baylor representation at the national walk in Washington. D.C.

Avon Walk

Baylor College of Medicine served as the medical sponsor for the two-day, 39.3 mile Avon Walk again in 2017, with efforts led by Dr. Stacey Carter, assistant professor of surgical oncology. The event was held April 22 – 23 and also included a cheer station for walkers staffed by volunteers from Baylor. The cheer station, with its ice-cold bright pink bandannas, is a favorite of the walkers every year! Baylor was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Avon Foundation for breast cancer research and prevention programs.

Walk for Babies

Staff member Katie Holtman was part of the Baylor team!

The March of Dimes March for Babies was Sunday, April 23, at the University of Houston. The 4.5 mile walk raised funds to support research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. Baylor ob/gyn, with support from Texas Children’s Hospital, organized a team for the walk. Donate online.

AmpUp! Walk/Run to End Bladder Cancer

Baylor was a sponsor of the Walk/Run to End Bladder Cancer April 23 at Terry Hershey Park and had a team participating in the two-mile, family friendly walk. Donate online.
