Baylor College of Medicine a big part of rodeo fun!

It’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ time, and Baylor College of Medicine is supporting the annual event that raises money for education programs for Texas youth.

Baylor’s Division of Sports Medicine in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery was an official sponsor of the Rodeo Run presented by ConocoPhillips, held March 4 in downtown Houston, where sports medicine physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers were on site at the post-race party providing free stretching and injury assessments. In addition, the Baylor team handed out more than 300 chocolate milk cartons as a race-recovery drink (read more here about the benefits of chocolate milk) and Baylor Sports Medicine water bottles. Race participants also had a photo opportunity with the Sports Medicine selfie frame with the messaging, “I completed the 2017 Rodeo Run.”

Several sports medicine doctors not only volunteered at the post-race event, but they also completed the race. Congratulations on this double duty to Dr. Irvin Sulapas, assistant professor of family and community medicine and a sports medicine expert, Dr. William Granberry, associate professor of orthopedic surgery, and Dr. Geoffrey Kaung, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery.

Baylor also is an official sponsor of the nightly chuck wagon races at RodeoHouston. Be sure to cheer on the Baylor wagon when you come out to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo!
