Health Hint: Summer shoe safety

Taking care of your health is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Baylor College of Medicine experts have plenty of tips to help you stay healthy. In preparation for the hot summer, this month’s Health Hint focuses on the best choices in footwear.

If it’s summer in Texas, men and women alike can be found in flip-flops, but they aren’t always the best choice. In fact, flip-flops and other sandals without straps across the back should be worn on a limited basis to avoid issues like plantar fasciitis and hammertoe. Instead, choose shoes with straps across the front and back to keep the foot secure and provide better arch support. Also look for nonslip soles so you can stay safe around the pool – but watch out for injuries to exposed toes.”
