Student Corner: Triathletes

When they’re not studying, rounding or researching, you can find some of our medical students swimming, biking and running in triathlons. This April, three medical students participated in the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in Galveston with the goal of promoting Baylor College of Medicine and wellness in the Houston community. Second-year medical students Grant McChesney and Sachin Allahabadi and fourth-year medical student Jordan Shaw all participated in the event. While all three competed individually, they represented Baylor as a team during the event. Their classmate, second-year medical student Ryan Dickey, is also a member of the Baylor triathlon team. Their hope is to grow the Baylor team, which is open to anyone in the Baylor community who is interested in training and participating in triathlons. For the April event, the three team members began training in January. The event consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run. Final times were:

  • Jordan Shaw: 7:24:45
  • Sachin Allahabadi: 6:50:28
  • Grant McChesney: 6:32:58

They encourage anyone in the Baylor community interested in participating in future triathlons to contact Ryan Dickey at ryan.dickey@bcm.edu.
