After several COVID-related delays, Houston medical institutions piloted an Interprofessional Elder Abuse and Mistreatment Simulation in mid-June, bringing together more than 190 students from five different professions to learn best practices for a vulnerable community.
“Why don’t we do something fun?”
On June 24, Baylor College of Medicine employees spent the afternoon volunteering at the Law Harrington Senior Living Center, an LGBTQ-affirming senior living center, located in the heart of Houston’s Third Ward.
Dr. Bettie Graham was teaching math and science in Nigeria during a two-year stint in the Peace Corps when she realized something. The children she was teaching did not understand bacteria, she said, because they didn’t have access to a microscope. If the kids didn’t understand bacteria, they couldn’t fully learn about infections, Graham said.
