For the second annual Ryan Open House, about 250 sixth graders from the Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan spent a half day on the Baylor campus. The middle school students had a glimpse into the life of medical school students and the history of the college and Dr. Michael E. DeBakey.
Baylor College of Medicine has supported the Houston Avon Walk since its inception eight years ago. In addition to serving as the official medical sponsor this year, providing care to more than 1,000 participants who walk 39 miles over two days, Baylor again hosted its popular cheer station for the walkers.
A group of fourth-year medical students and residents were inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in a ceremony in Cullen Auditorium March 11. They were selected for the honor for displaying exceptional humanism in their patient care.
The inaugural Bobby R. Alford Grand Rounds Distinguished Lecture at Baylor College of Medicine was held March 13, focusing on deep brain stimulation treatment for Parkinson’s disease and other disorders.
Baylor College of Medicine has made a significant contribution in the effort to better understand what causes cancerous tissue to develop.
