Doctors in the Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor are going above and beyond to care for their patients through the House Calls program that brings doctors and medical students to the homes of patients to provide personal care.
Dr. Thiago Halmer has a passion for the community and giving back, having been involved in outreach projects since he was an undergraduate student. He is continuing that tradition as chief resident in the emergency medicine program.
When the Hess Corp. donated its 2016 Hess Toy Truck and Dragster to Baylor College of Medicine it was a chance to share the gift of giving with affiliated hospitals and partnered Houston Independent School District schools.
Since 2005, the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor and the Department of Pathology at Texas Children’s Hospital have played an important role in global health initiatives, first in Africa and later extending their outreach to Southeast Asia.
Meeting the medical needs of Houston’s homeless veterans was the focus of the annual Houston Homeless Stand Down in October, but the community outreach project also served to provide training to healthcare professionals, including Baylor residents, on treating this unique patient population.
