Each month, Student Corner highlights the accomplishments of Baylor’s medical, graduate and allied health students. This month, however, Student Corner is dedicated to a Baylor faculty member who perhaps has had a greater impact on students than any other – Dr. Frank Kretzer.
Second-year medical student Bryan Whitlow received a grant from the Texas Medical Association to support the Medical Miles Mentor Program that pairs Baylor student-volunteers with HISD middle schoolers to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Graduate student Hengyu (Henry) Lu, a graduate student in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine and trainee in the NCI-designated Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center at Baylor, has received one of five nationally competitive Research Scholar Award grants from the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation.
Through her extracurricular activities, third-year medical student Beverly Patuwo is making sure her passion for both pediatrics and global health has an impact locally and beyond.
In their second year of medical school, students at BCM begin the transition from classroom training to clinical rotations. It’s an exciting and busy time, but it doesn’t stop students, including Vidya Eswaran, from going above and beyond their duties as medical students to get involved in the community.
