The excitement was palpable as Dr. Paul Klotman, president, CEO and executive dean of Baylor, walked into the classroom where a handful of Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan students waited their turn to speak with him.
The students had been selected because they had won various awards during the school year for their involvement in the following school activities or clubs: Junior Classical League, History Day, Student Council, Chess, Science Fair, Ecobots, Computer Science and Debate.
Klotman also spoke with a group of students participating in a program meant to teach them about how to build and run a business. The students gave a short elevator pitch about their company, Green Thumbs, and were so convincing that Klotman bought some of their merchandise.
Next, Klotman spoke to the school’s graduating eighth graders. He touched on topics such as how long it took him to become president of Baylor, how the curriculum for BCMAR was created, future plans for other Baylor affiliated schools, and how to help encourage more girls to participate in science, technology, engineering and math programs.
